Looks Like the College is Up Next

It’s been coming for some time now. Don, for those of you who really don’t know Don is Don Schrieber part owner and publisher of the DAR, has had it in for the college for a long time. Some how they disrespected him when he owned the Journal, and then he was friends with one of the college presidents that was fired back in the 90’s.

No matter what did it all signs point to the college being next up on Don’s hit list. He told me back when we ate breakfast, lunch, and afternoon peanuts together that he was going to go after the leadership at Three Rivers someday. He was geared up to attack them for the pre-meeting dinners the trustees had and then got side tracked with the Coliseum director. Now that the beer flows at 301 South Fifth and enough time has passed since he sank his fangs in me I guess its back to finding an enemy, blaming them for all of the community’s problems, and using Mr. Rust’s fish wrap to slander them into submission.

The college isn’t perfect, but its one of the treasurers of Poplar Bluff, and for those with foresight to see it is the future of our community. I had the pleasure of eating lunch one day with John Q. Hammonds of Springfield and he told me that he planned each of his developments in cities that were on interstates and had universities. He explained that those two resources guaranteed a certain level of economic growth each year. I hope the leaders of our community will have a fraction of the foresight of a John Q. Hammonds and work with the leadership at Three Rivers with respect and an appreciation for the excellent work they do and the valuable service they provide Poplar Bluff.

I have to agree the college is a good thing with good people but with bad management.

I remember Robbie Meyers when he was a stock boy at the old Snyders IGA store in P.B....

Anonymous said...

We all know that Robbie Myers is just "someones" political "BOY". Robbie isn't smart enough to teach remedial math. He has a Sally Struthers mail-in degree. Everyone that is affiliated with the college knows that Robbie has his staff do all the work. Most everyone in PB knows what "power couple" really run the college!

I think Robbie just works there I dont think he runs the place. Ive been gone so please fill me in.

He hasnt been there that long to accomplish much or to mess up too much. If somone has a problem with the college chances are it existed before him or if you have a compliment the same probably holds true.

You might say I only take that opinion because I know him, but I havent seen him in years. If this isnt accurate fill me in.

I don't have anything against the guy, but I do think that it is funny how he goes from a guy struggling to get into politics (with no degree) to the new Vice President of Finances and Governmental Affairs for a College. I can imagine that there were some highly qualified individuals that wanted that job, I know of one local CPA that really wanted it and was VERY upset when they gave it to Robbie. I also think that it is funny that the college can't figure out how someone steals $150,000 from the bookstore and TRCC has to pay an outside company to come in and look at the books. You would think a VP of Finance would have the ability to do that. But, then again, most everyone knows why Robbie is in the position he is in and it's not his great financial insight.

Well as you can see anyone who knows who Robbie Myers is knows he is only a political tool for people above him. So my guess would be the college could be up to something and just wanted a brainless fool to sit in his shabby little office and keep his mouth shut. So needless to say they’re getting what they’re paying for…

The previous guy let it happen, Robbie figured it out! This happened more than once too.

The previous guy let it happen. Robbie caught the person. This happened more than once & went back for some time before robbie was ever there.

why does everything with the college involve Robbie Myers?

If the basketball team goes 2 and 20 will we blame him too?

No, but then the "TRCC power couple" would have a real excuse to fire Coach Bess.

I thought the DAR was after Bess

Anonymous said...

The DAR is after the TRCC administration, the "power couple" have the administration after Bess, and the institution is caught in the middle. It all seems to come from the husband and wife "power couple" that have a strong-hold on the college.

"Mr. Rust’s fish wrap to slander them into submission." What exactly are you refering too? I'm lost.

who is the power couple? seems like if they are so powerful they'd already have done what you say they want to do. Must not be much of a strong hold. Is it schrieber and rust?

The "power couple" are running the college, or running it in the ground I should say. They are trying to run Coach Bess off because they think that he has too much power, they are trying to force the athletic booster club to hand over all proceeds to the college so the college can spend as they see fit, and they have pretty much ran off or fired any one of the administrators that has stood up to them. This "power couple" is a husband and wife team. The husband is the lawyer for the college and has more power around this town than most people are aware of. If you would look at all the present administration that is in place, well the "power couple" has put them there. No experience or degree required, just as long as they do what the "power couple" says.

the college lawyer? I heard he played college basketball & got his education taht way and always been a big supporter of basketball. weird stuff. there's a booster club at the college? who runs that? the board? i can't think they have enough money to matter but i wonder how they spend it. people hate giving up money that's true. i think with all these recent empoyees getting caught stealing people are starting to sweat. i don't know enough about the booster club to say but i wonder who they answer to.

I had the wife in class years ago and i really liked her class. didn't get a very good grade though!

i came across your blog when snooping around semo's forum.

and i got a kick out of all the anonymous posting.

I just love it when people hide behind a monitor.

I like Robbie Myers. I think it dumb to think he is unqualified and then to think he is so smart that he could pull off all of these horrible schemes.

Just because he is the most well known employee at the college doesnt mean you should put all the blame for things you dont like on him.

Scott R. Faughn said...

If the college is ran by some conspiracy or whatever they have done a pretty good job. In 30 some years they have went from a storefront to a top flight community college.

I hope they take it to SEMO and dont backdown an inch. Cape leaders are bullies, but I know if you punch the Cape bunch in the mouth they back down.

TRCC has record enrollment.
It's in great financial shape.
It is adding and expanding many different programs.
It's offering more courses to more people in more locations than ever.

Sounds to me like this "power couple" and the rest of the college management are doing a great job.

Keep up the good work.

Doesn't Don Schrieber realize that the higher a person's education level, the more likely that person is to subscribe to a newspaper.

If I were the publisher of the DAR, I would do everything I could to promote TRCC.

I find it all too convenient that there was a negative story in the paper every week for a long time.

However, since this little website went up nothing.

Conicidence?

They may not be used to being called out.

I worked for the college for years i I can tell you from first hand experiance what some of these "respectible leaders" have done. Starting with an affair between two people who used to be in administration one is gone now. People who have been let go and their position done away with then two or three other administrators supposedly split that persons duties between each other changed their own titles and gave themselves $10,000 plus in raises. This has happened more than once in the last 10 years and at least one of these people have had a combined raise of 30,000+ in just the last 6 years. If you want proof it should be public record.

Joe and Judy have done a heck of a lot for that school. Most people dont apprecaite it, but they have brought that place a long way and we shouldnt forget it.

Maybe the admin. makes mistakes, who doesnt, but the results are pretty great.

Im a college backer and the DAR better watch out going after TRCC.

It's John Q. Hammons not Hammonds.

They need to do employee drug and alcohol testing. Starting with hair folical testing of the security, maintenace, and custodial staff. I've observed a few that appeared under the influence. And have also heard rumor of staff members selling.
