I Love Butler County

I think this is the best place in the world to raise a family. We have great schools, great outdoor activities, and some of the best folks in the world. Now that is is nearing deer season and some frost is in the air I cant help but notice how beautiful this part of the country is, and how great it is to have neighbors to share it with.

I am also excited about the future of Butler County. We have a booming industrial park, a lot of places to shop, and everyday they get closer to completing that new highway that will be the future of our county. The only thing I think that can stop us is our own infighting. Sometimes we focus too much on who is in power or how someone offended us one time. I've even shared with Scott that while this blog is very needed in our community that with people being anonymous it can cross the line sometimes.

In conclusion, I think the future is very bright for us as long as we don't get in our own way.

As far as posting anonymous and things getting out of hand. I'm glad for all the anonymous post telling how things are. From the majority of post I've seen even some of the one's that have unfortunatly been deleted have been true and common knowledge. Things have to be made public so that the public can make a change in the way things are. So if people are offended then good do somthing about it and vote for change. Quit letting these crooked officials etc get away with the crap they get away with. We have to quit be'ing so politically correct and start tell things like it is and not just skirting around the issues. Thank you Shawn

I want to state that this post was the one that I can't agree more with. Poplar Bluff is a GREAT place, I have been here my entire life and I hope to raise my children here.

The economy is booming, the umemployment rate is a little over 5%, which is AMAZING! All of the industries in the Park are growing and expanding...and things are getting better every day.

With saying all this..........there is the "political" side of it all. As the old saying goes "When I do good, no one remembers, when I do bad, no one forgets".

Poplar Bluff........great place to live and raise a family!

Great Schools??? We have some Great teachers that teach in sub-par schools. Have you been to the kindergarten center? It is a run-down school in one of the worst parts of town and THATs our kids introduction to school in PB. Really, other that the 5th and 6th grade center, the rest of our school buildings are embarrassing! I have personally been involved in trying to recruit some medical professionals to PB and most of them want a tour of the schools. After the tour, the majority of them are not pleased with the condition of our schools. I really wish that our city would do the right thing and up-grade our school buildings, starting with the kindergarten center.

i thought the column was good. the "if it bleeds it leads" stuff is an easy trap to fall into even on the internet.

i agree with rbelcher44. good job.

"If it bleeds, people read." and "No news is (never) good news," especially in PB. We like dirt, grime, drama, scandal and personal attack -- That's why this blog is so popular. In some sick way, that's why DAR is still in business. Not saying that's necessarily a bad thing. The public does have a right to know. And I am a fan of this blog (not DAR). But positivity should have its place as well. This doesn't exclusively have to be a place to sling mud. Leave that to the media "professionals" in town.
